Topic: OSCAR NASCAR Race at Tom's World in Bend on May 18th 2026

The spring OSCAR NASCAR race at Tom's in Bend is always a highlight of the year! The track at Tom's World is not only challenging for driver's, it tests your equipment as much as your driving skill! My goal for the races here is to finish the race! The track is half high speed, balls out fast, but the other half is tight and twisty with the focus on handling and throttle discipline! This race was true to the racing legends from earlier years. High speed dramatic crashes, and a track that wants to tear your car apart and send you to the pits!

Before the racing starts, all the drivers vote on which is the best looking car for the "Concours" award. This year Chris (Captain Chaos) won the award. In my opinion, this is one of the coolest and most original paint jobs I've ever seen on a hardbody slot car! Really nice job Chris!

After the "Concours" judging it was time to get down to business. OSCAR races start off with qualifying/time trails. Each racers gets one timed minute on the track to set his fastest lap. Only one race at a time, trying for his best timed lap, is on the track. A lot of pressure as all the other racers are watching you try to run just one perfect lap. The top qualifyer for this race was Shawn (Monster) Mayea with a 7.184 second lap. The top nine qualifiers were all under 8 seconds.

After qualifying the field was broken up into two groups for racing. The bottom six qualifiers were gridded for the "Xfinity Race". The top six qualifiers would make up the "Cup Race". The winner of the "Xfinity" race had the option of moving up into the faster group of racers in the "Cup" race. Each race consisted of four complete rounds of racing. 4 minute heat races made up each round. At the end of the "Xfinity" race Tom Street had laid a serious whoopin' on us! But the surprise of the day was the drive by Tom's World new guy Jack Mulkey! This was Jack's very first hardbody race and he was FAST! Tom took the first place Xfinity award which left the move up position to Jack.

After an awesome lunch put together for us by Tom's wife Susan (thank you Susan!), we all readied for the main event of the day, the "Cup" race. It amazes me just how fast these guys are on this tough track! And the track took its toll on this group of racers. I think most every racer experienced some sort of mechanical failure or issue, in addition to crash damage! The fast guy and eventual winner in the "Cup" race was the top qualifier Shawn Mayea. The car he built for this race was incredibly fast, and cornered fiercely!

After the racing Tom handed out the awards. First up was Stuart Wall with the "Shit Happens" award. A prestigeous award for having the worst luck and most mechanical issues of the race! Stuart won this award "hands down"!

Jack Mulkey received the "Iron Man" award for not only competing in the Xfinity race, but moving up and also competing in the entire Cup race. Jack was also gifted a NASCAR chassis built by Stuart, for being the most improved racer at Tom's World.

Chris Captain Chaos was the recipient of the "Councours" award. His car was just plain incredible!

Looks like a great time was had sorry I missed this one but I cant wait to make the trip back over the mountain and try my hand again... Good job to everyone and Shawn car from the results looks like he was on a whole level of his own.
