Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

I'll second that as Dave performed his magic on mine as well transforming it into something that could be raced hard, now if only I could drive it to it's potential...

Thanks again Dave, much appreciated!

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

The Womp class is definitely heating up!

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

Monday OT - November 1, 2021

'Niler racing on Mondays (SE-niler that is). Yes us old retired guys are dominating the Monday racing right now. With the exception of working man Daniel (Doc), us old farts have taken over Inslot's Checkered Flag on Mondays! The evening crowd has yet to exceed our numbers or enthusiasm!

The first WOMP race started at approximately (did I mention we're retired?) high noon. The WOMP races are 10 lap heads up sprint races. Points are used for scoring, and driver's point totals determine the winners. The first qualifying round of racing is round robin driver rotation. After the first round elimination rounds are held with either the top, or top two drivers advancing. We had 6 entries for this race.

WOMP Qualifying Round Results:
Doc 13 points
Bill 13
Dave 12
John 11
Al 7
Mitch 4

WOMP Semi Round Results:
John 16 points
Dave 10
Al 9
Mitch 5

WOMP Final Results:
Bill 14 points
Doc 11
John 8
Dave 7

After the WOMP races we moved right into the Flexi race. For the Flexi races we run one round with the standard round robin rotation with 4 minute heats. We had the same 6 participants for this race.

Flexi Results:

Doc took the win in the Flexi race by 4 laps. John Gill was second and I finished third. Doc got to add another hash mark to his signature on the coveted PASER WEENER (weekly-winner) CUP!

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

And then it was evening! Although the attendance for the 6PM racing was a little weak, the racing was not! There were 3 entries for the 6PM WOMP race. Here's how that one shook out:

1st Dave
2nd Bill
3rd Rico

The same racers participated in the Flexi race. The Flexi race was extremely tight with all three competitors finishing on the same lap! Here's the finish in that race!

Dave Smith won that race by THAT much!

Thanks for hosting Bill, a very close race indeed, but I prefer the computer results.

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

I'm really enjoying the Open Track Mondays! We don't usually get a big turn out at any one race, but it does seem to give a lot of my friends a chance to stop by, check in, and get in a little racing. It's not always the same group and I get to see a lot of different friends.

Yesterday we got in some testing and tuning for the upcoming OSCAR Trans Am race at Springwater Raceway this Saturday. We also held a Womp race and a Flexi race, each with 7 entries.

Womp race results:

1st John
2nd Doc
3rd Dave
4th Stuart
5th Beau
6th Bill
7th Mitch

In the end it was John Gill with a clean sweep for the day adding two fence posts to his signature on the prestigious PASER WEENER CUP! Nicely done John!

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

In the Womp race I had 12 points, you and Dave both had 11. You took second by having the best average lap time. Rob was fourth with 6 points.

Yes, I believe I even bumped the break out penalty at least once. The track was really hooked up!

The traction was really  hooked up on Monday.  Even body was  playing dangerous  close to the breakout time with everybody  tripping it at least  once. Some more than once....  Thanks for hoisting  Bill.

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

Yes the track was really hooked up on Monday after all the rubber put down in Saturday's Northwest True Scale Race. Although we didn't have a big crowd we did get in some great Womp racing!

Here are the results from the final four:

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

Open Track Day on Monday November 29th. We had seven racers participate in the Womp race. We are still using the 20 lap heat race format with point scoring to determine the winner. Normally we use a 5.5 second lap break-out in an effort to keep the field close. I wanted to try and validate the break-out time during these races because in the previous race we had experienced quite a few break-out penalties. So, for this race we ran three rounds of round robin races and eliminated the break-out spec for the first two rounds. The third round was raced with the break-out of 5.5 seconds in place.

Here's what we found out. In the first round of racing one driver had one break-out penalty in the red lane, and three in the blue lane. During the second round of racing two drivers experienced break-out penalties. One driver had one penalty lap in the white lane, and the other driver experienced a total of seventeen penalty laps, nine in the blue lane and eight in the yellow lane.

During the testing one driver had a fastest lap of 5.408 seconds, and another driver had a fastest lap of 5.393 seconds. With that documented I will say that both of the cars posting those fastest laps appeared to me to have more straight line speed than my car. My car is fitted with a Professor Motor 25k motor, but I will say it is getting old and has slowed significantly. As set up, my car handles very well but is short on straight line speed. I can push it as hard as I possibly can and stay within the 5.5 second break-out. Every once in awhile my car will break-out, but it is pretty rare. I had no beak-outs in this particular race. I will replace the motor with a new one and do some testing on my own. All this leads me to the conclusion that the 5.5 second break-out time seems appropriate to me for the Womp class of cars under the current rule set. We can revisit this break-out rule as the racing progresses if needed.

In the end Doc took the win in the Womp Class, followed by John.
http://www.naste.org/members/bill/IMG_7192ICFR.jpg

Here's the results:
1st Doc = 41 points
2nd John = 39
3rd Bill = 38
4th Dave = 29
5th Rob = 25
6th Al = 19
7th Mitch = 18

What I like about the 20 lap format we use for the Womp races is; 1. Each heat race is an individual race between the four cars on the track. The points for each finish position are tallied to determine an overall winner. If you have a bad heat or even two you still have a good chance of coming back and competing for an overall win. 2. The break-out penalty evens out the field, keeping the car's performance levels in check without the need of a thorough tech inspection or more detailed rules.

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

The Flexi Class was raced after the completion of the Womp race. John Gill was the winner of this race followed by Dave in second, and with Mitch finishing a strong third!

Here's the results:

For the Flexi Class races we use a standard round robin format with four minute heats.

After the racing we had quite a bit of discussion around what's next for Inslot's Checkered Flag Raceway. We discussed racing different types of cars, and track schedule as far as what days and times work best for those currently involved. We discussed the possibility of going to a twice a month schedule instead of every Monday (every other Monday instead). We also discussed rotating the classes of cars to be raced on each race day. There are just three more Open Track Mondays scheduled for the remainder of this year. Keep an eye out for changes after the first of the year. One proposal already in the planning stage, is an IROC race sponsored by the PASER Club!

I need to apologize to both Rico and Zack for closing up early Monday. Evening attendance has been light lately so I started closing around 5:30 PM or 6. For the remainder of this year I will be sure to keep the doors open at least until 6:30 PM. However is planning to attend is normally on site by then.

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

It was a fun day. Maybe need to do some spot height checks. Before we race next time. I WAS at fault with my flexy car. There were some  womps that may be getting close also..

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

Well that was a good day of racing. My womp was off. Was ok for the 1st round but fell of the tire cliff the second go around.  Thanks Once again Bill. On a second note hope every body made it home with there hair still in one piece  with how bad traffic  ended up being. What a mess.

Re: MONDAY OT (Open Track)

We had a good turnout for the first Monday in December with eight racers in the midday Womp race. It seems eveyone is getting their Womps dialed in. The racing was very close! After two rounds there were ties for first and second, so we had a runoff of the top five. Dave Smith again showed he is the Womp Whisperer!
