Re: On the Horizon

I got it from a guy in Seaside, it said it was "New Old Stock" for what that's worth. Everything but the body sure looks new. There was a separate box for the motor, it looked like it could have sat on a shelf for 50 years, it was yellow enough.

It came, it runs, it doesn't get any better than that. Well, with better tires it might get even better.

Mitch,

I am super mega-jealous.  That thing looks awesome!

Re: On the Horizon

AWESOME car!!!!

Re: On the Horizon

I agree, really cool!

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.

Re: On the Horizon

The last time I was in that old toy/ coin store in Oregon City, he had about 3 vintage 1/24 slot cars in his display case if anyone is interested. I didn't pay much attention at the time. I was looking for something else.

Re: On the Horizon

Here's my Garvic which was recently purchased on Ebay.  It took longer than I thought to get what I thought was a good deal.  These vintage cars seem to be real hot right now and the prices reflect that. I paid $35.00 including shipping but it did come with the original box and controller along with some vintage Revell axle spacers.

It is going to need rear tires and maybe some new braids but looks otherwise complete and original.  I may swap out the body for a Cobra or Corvette

Re: On the Horizon

Nice score Rico!!!

I don't know, I think those tires may have a little life left in them!!!

Re: On the Horizon

Gotta wonder how the tires get worn like that. Great deal on the car. Try to use a vintage body if you switch. tongue

Re: On the Horizon

Bill: Just wondering if our prof motor/ds/defalco controllers we already use will work ok for this new class? I am assuming you used one of these late model type for the testing you have done.

Goose

Re: On the Horizon

That's a good question Goose. I actually used my old Professor Motor controller with the thumb screw adjusters for testing. That controller is actually for 1/24 cars. We should probably do some more testing. With two people we can watch the amp meter while the other person runs a car to see how much amperage they draw at 10 volts.

Maybe if the new style electronic controllers we currently use are not suitable for these cars we could use old style wound resistor type controllers. That actually maybe fun! We could all use old style thumb plunger controllers!!!

Re: On the Horizon

Very cool stuff John!

Nice job on the GT40 roadster windshield buck!

I believe that Morgan body was a Pactra release. I've seen that chassis before, I believe it was one of the kit chassis you could in the 60's.

Re: On the Horizon

Great stuff John.  I wish I still had my cars from the 60's but gone for a long time now.

Re: On the Horizon

Mine too, now I find myself shopping for other people's cars from the 60s. Actually Dad's were better, but they really got rid of a lot of stuff when they came from California to Oregon. I assume that's where/when they went.

Re: On the Horizon

I was an HO enthusiast when I was a kid. My first set was a Gilbert 1/32 set which I loved. Then my Dad took me over to one of his friend's hosues and that guy's kids had a huge Aurora HO Thunderjet set up. Well, that was it! The next Christmas I turned HO!!! I still have a couple of my original cars.

Re: On the Horizon

Neat stuff John and nice work on the windshield.

Re: On the Horizon

I was able to cut, peel, scrape and gouge the old dried out tires off.  I oiled the motor and axle bushings, hit the power and the motor took right off so she's a runner.  I used a scuff pad and polished up the wheels and they cleaned up nicely.

Now, just waiting for the Paul Gage tires to arrive.

Re: On the Horizon

Looks like she's about ready to rumble!!!!

Here's a couple of photos courtesy of Ebay that show John's Pactra Morgan in it's RTR configuration:

Re: On the Horizon

Nice job on the wheels Rico. I have some here that I might have to take a wire wheel to, luckily I had some extras here that weren't too bad.
