Topic: Season Opening Race at Redline Raceway!

Ten racers converged on Redline Raceway to fire off the new season on Monday September 15th. The car classes raced at Rob's Redline Raceway fall under the Columbia Slot Car Racers banner. Last night we raced the Flexi and Womp classes. First up was the Flexi class. Entries in this class are predominantly newer JK chassis types. Hawk 7s are the motor of choice.

Racing Flexi type cars on the Redline track is a challenge with the track itself being a competitor. With tight lane spacing the track is constantly fighting with the racers who are trying to keep their cars in the slot. Not to mention the other racers providing light and not so light contact! With cars as fast as the Flexis, there is definitely lots of action all race long! Here's the grid for the first race of the season:

Re: Season Opening Race at Redline Raceway!

After the Flexi race and dinner were over (pizza supplied by Rob) the Womp cars took over the track. By comparison the Womps are a little easier on racers than the Flexis. Being smaller makes them just a little easier to get around the track without contacting other cars. But just a little easier! The competition is this class is extremely close. Just one lap separated the top three in this race.

Here are the Womp results:

Overall I'd say the season opener for Monday Night Racing at Rob's Redline Raceway was a big hit! We welcomed a new racer, Ray into the group. Ray had raced in the '60s in the New Jersey area and he adjusted to the track quickly. With a great racer turnought like we had last night, we need to streamline our Monday race program. I will be working with Rob and looking at shortening the time between the start of the heat races, and keeping a closer eye on the clock to start racing on time, and keeping the dinner break to a minimum. We are still planning to be racing the 1/32 Open Production, and the new Midget classes. I disussed with Rob the possiblity of rotaing some classes on the schedule. Stay tuned on that.

It was great to see Ray at the track as a new racer!

The racers at Rob's Redline are friendly and always willing to help out new racers in getting up to speed. Track owner Rob gave Ray some good tips.

Mike G. had a great night, winning the Womp race and placing second in the Flexi race!

Bill H. also ran well. He has been away from racing for most of the summer, but by the end of the race he was back in the hunt!

Kona, a rookie last season, showed up with a new controller and demostrated what a difference good equipment can make! Fifth in the Fexi race is his best finish to date!
