I probably should have researched tracks a little better before buying mine.  Some slot guides perform poorly on Ninco track.  So instead of changing all the cars over to compatible guides, I carefully took a Dremel and ground the plastic sided edges of the slot.  The biggest problem with the slot width is where two tracks connect together.  I had read of using a coin dollar, or popsicle stick to force the width out a bit, but I think running the dremel carefully around the slots is a better permanent fix.  Now all the various cars run smoother.

I rebuilt my track.  Not nearly as technical as before, but I have equal lanes now.  I did add some snow track.  Depending on how other racers feel about it, I may sandpaper the surface a little.

As a result of the revision, I have alot of curves left over.  I tried to add some chicanes, but the chicanes lengths didn't work out.  But I think this is good enough for now to get started.

And based on your guy's suggestions, I left the crossovers out.  I see your points of view.

I hope you guys don't mind answering all my questions, I bet every new person has the same ones?  Well, anyway...., I'd like to know your thoughts on lane crossovers.  Realizing some say they are not totally realistic, yet for an analog track, I think they would add complexity to the track.  I've read opinions on both sides.  What are your views on them?

I'll note that on my calender, thanks for the info!

I'll keep that in mind Bill.  To me, on the computer screen anyway, the track layout looks too symmetrical.  But with it overlapping in spots, maybe the height difference will make it look better with the actual track.  I'll get photos soon as I rearrange the track.

The race I'm going to is at Heidelberg Raceway.  Really looking forward to it.

Well, fortunately I didn't make my track very permanent.  In using Tracker 2000, I found the track set up I have now has a few things I don't like about it, namely unequal lane lengths and differing amount of curves per lane.  With just a lap counter, I really want both lanes equal.  So I started to draw out a track similiar to a Kingsley track I had printed off the internet some time ago.  I modified it slightly to fit what I wanted, equal lanes, and fitting to 4'x8'.  Right now it's maybe a little simplistic and boring to the eye.  But I will try to add some features to the track to help it out.

I'll post some photos once I start putting it together.

(As a side note, we are going to our first race in Eugene this Friday!)

It is Ninco's Master Track.

Thanks guys!  Took me a bit, but I got it.

This track is in my garage, hung from the ceiling, as to go up and down.  When ready to race, probably take it to a little office trailer/guest house on our property for more room.

My long term plan is to add some scenery to mimic what a road course in the Oakridge area might look like.

http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu232/cascaderoadcourse/IMG_0126.jpg

It's not a digital track, just thought four cars might like better.

http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu232/cascaderoadcourse/IMG_0130.jpg

It's on a 4x8 sheet.  Probably like to keep it portable.  I read on the Ninco website its really not a beginners track.  I can understand why now.  For not having much experience with 1/32, I tend to go to slow, and fail to make some of the tighter curves.  But that is ok, as I will be adding some aprons, and I like the road course type feel.

As you can see, I have one track of snow.  I found the snow track curves to be way to tricky for beginners like myself.  I plan to add the snow curves back in, but I think I will roughen them up a bit with sandpaper, not much, but a little.

Thought I would post a couple photos of my track.  But I can't figure out how to post a photo here.  Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

The $22.00 power supply I was looking at is only 2 amps.  So maybe that is not a good choice.  My dad is into electronics, the LM350 supply might be a fun project to do with him.

Thanks

Maybe not quite in the spirit of the above, but my uncle use to tell me, if you aren't cheating, you aren't trying hard enough!

I'm finding my track is pretty tough for a beginner.  I read somewhere that using a variable power supply, one can lower the voltage.  Trying to keep myself on a budget, I found on the internet an adjustable power supply for $22.00, plus shipping.  It steps up from 3 to 12 volts in 3 volt increments.  Would 12 volts be enough of a drop to help me out?  As it is now, I have to almost supply no power going through a few corners.  These are magnetless cars, which I like.

Also, while I'm at it, would it be a good idea to buy two power supplies, one for each lane?

Thanks

Thanks for all the information.  Certainly have some options to try now.

I have tried to google Tracker 2000, looks like it is, or was shareware.  But I can't find a link that is still good.  Some mention an activation code, so maybe it was not free at one time.  Anyway, I would like to try to it, whether I need to buy it, or download it.

Thanks

The race track I have put together, is suppose to have equal length lanes.  Last night I counted the curves, and the two lanes do not have the same amount of inside and outside curves (one lane has many more "sharp" corners).  I really don't want a track that winners are determined by the most laps in a time frame, or least amount of time to complete so many laps.  I want a heads up, lane versus lane, first to so many laps wins.

I have two lane change sections, and thought I could place them so as to equal out the inside vs outside curves.  But then that might effect lane lengths?  Am I being way to picky here?  Or do equal length lanes pretty much even themselves out regardless of who ever has the most sharp corners?

Thanks

I'm looking for the following Ninco track parts:

- 4 each 4" straight (2 of these can be snow track)

- 2 each 8" straight (these can be snow track)

- Lap counter and timer

Would prefer to buy somebody's used or extra.

Thanks

Thanks for the input.  At this point, the plywood idea sounds good, as I have various scrap pieces around.

Is there a way to make track apron/border inexpensively?  I have Ninco track, but don't want to pay for Ninco borders or aprons.  Where I need it most is on the inside of some very sharp turns.

I read somewhere about doubling up HO scale railroad bed cork, not sure how well that would wear.

Thanks

Thanks Rico!  I used some Artin link, and it didn't work.  I just figured they went bank-o.  But your link to their site works fine.  Thanks.

I actually have a Ninco track, but the Artin stocker cars are little more reasonabley priced for just getting started in the sport I think.

Thanks again!

I bought a few Artin cars awhile back, and would like to buy a few more.  But I notice their website is no longer active.  Does anyone know if they are out of business?

Thanks

Thanks for the info guys!  I'll try contacting the local clubs.

Unfortanetely I can't make to Portland this weekend, but would love to make it another time soon.

I'm going to be putting up flyers around Oakridge in regards to forming a club in the next couple of days.

Thanks again.

Not sure whether to be highly impressed, or............ highly spooked.  Run to watch though!

Thanks Bill.

Oakridge is about 35 miles southeast of Eugene/Springfield.  Hopefully pull some racers from there, but hoping too find some locals for evening races.

Does NASTE have memberships?

Also, are there any clubs close to the Eug/Spfld that I could visit on a race night, just to witness how the club and races operate?

Thanks,
Mike

Building a permanent track, but portable.  It's only two lanes, for now.  Hopefully get some involvement up here and maybe convert it to 4 some day.

Sure I will have lots of questions!

Thanks!
