Unless Al steps in here, I'd say this is a push until after Bill returns from his honeymoon.

On that note though, the 24th might work for me.  It's a Weds just before an Odd Thurs.  Anyone?

You're welcome to excuse yourself from your wife's company at the beach and come back to play with toy cars.  I'm sure that'd be a super-healthy step for your marriage!

I will happily pick another date and to a remedial tuning session with you if it'd make you feel better.

So far it's just Monte and me, neither of us having a track to really do much with so this may be all just bits and bytes on the internet anyway and we'll wait for you to return...

Maybe Al can do it?

Have fun though Bill!

I know it'd mean back to back slot nights, but would anyone want to do a BRM test and tune next Weds, 8/10, the day before an Odd Thurs?  I believe a will be available.

Bill - would you be available/willing to host again?

Guys,

I can't do the test & tune this Weds. Will need to reschedule for some time in August. Sorry to tease about it.

CK

Monte took a car and crew to Tacoma to run in the 6h BRM Classics Enduro this past Sunday and again raised the bar for the Oregon Donor legacy, pulling down a third place finish running amongst some tough competition.  I wish I knew more of who was up there running, maybe Monte will post a report (or at least reply with some news of how it went)?  Regardless, I wanted to give props for hanging tough with the locals.

Excellent job!

Final result :

1st BRUMOS 2398 Laps.
2nd EMSA 2351 Laps.
3rd OREGON DONORS 2306 Laps.
4th PSSRA 2282 Laps.
5th MUSE 2215 Laps.
6th DRONES 2171 Laps.

Are YOU retired now????

You have NO idea how much I wish I could say yes to that... but no.

There is a remote possibility I can pull off the afternoon/evening of Weds, July 6- a day before the next Odd Thurs.  Let me know if that works with you guys and I can start figuring out a plan.  Otherwise it'll be sometime in August.

Chris

Thanks for hosting a fun night Al.  There was lots of good, close racing all around.  Looking forward to the next one!

Sure, that'd be ideal but I'll need to scrub my calendar.  What does yours look like?

(don't tell me it has squares with numbers and days of the week on it!)

All,

A new livery 962 is now available and it's one for which I have been waiting years...  The #17 Shell from the Nurburgring:

http://www.italiaslot.com/img/1slotlandia/slotlandia_2016/foto/962_Shell_17_1.jpg

I have ordered one, along with a red motor to be legal for Odd Thurs.  It is the first new 962 I have ordered in a LONG(!!!!!) time.

Whenever it happens to arrive, I will begin setting it up and tuning it.  If anyone has their own BRM (either configuration) and wants to tune theirs while I tune mine, I would be happy to work together and help get yours set up as well.  The only downside is I have a bit of traveling coming up and things may not work out until August.

Let me know if you're interested and we can coordinate from there.

Why no Lancia's?

They'll probably rust to pieces before the end of the race.

It's at Al's this week, if my memory serves me correctly.  I am pretty sure I'll be showing up there at least....

What are the classes Bill?

Monte and Tony have the BRM car covered.  If you're interested in the Scaleauto race, I can hook you up with one if needed.

Just a reminder for those who have them- bring your BRM Classic (917 or 512) or your BRM GT (McLaren F1 or 911 GT1) to Too Bad starting this week.  We will see if we can fill a grid and get a race off the ground.  Plastic chassis w/pink motors, aly chassis with black motors are fine although one may be better suited to the voltage/track layout.

For rules, let's play by the box stock rules for now (including traction magnet).  True the (stock) tires, set your guide pressure, ride height and spring tension, fluff your braids, float your body, and go racing...

See you there!

Chris

Not sure exactly where to post this, feel free to move if necessary...

Full details (what there are of them) are here:

http://www.slotcarillustrated.com/porta … post968288

Fri practice, Sat 12h Scaleauto GT race (911, Viper, Jag, Audi), Sun 6h BRM Classic race (917, 512).

As of right now, I will not be able to attend any of the weekend but last I heard, Monte is heading up the team for Sunday's BRM race.  If you're interested, please connect with him.

If someone wants to represent NASTE in Tacoma at the Scaleauto event and doesn't own a Scaleauto car, I have a reasonably competitive one which may be available to use.

While not a big fan of loaning my cars out willy-nilly, I completely agree with Mitch's point.  I'd be happy to maintain some portion of a NASTE IROC fleet, maybe evn donate a car or two towards establishing one.  I have a Ninco or two which would be an ideal start.

We also have the fleet of GT40's Bill and Goose put together to play with.

The one thing I'm stuck on is that while wanting to encourage others to get involved, I'm not sure that it's our responsibility as NASTE regulars to ensure that those who don't have the inclination to research what classes/cars to purchase and how to tune them have a competitive ride for any given night.  I kinda feel that there should be some incentive for them to commit if they're interested- or at least contribute a nominal maintenance fee after the first X number of events?

This is assuming the Championship stays on Sundays...  I'd imagine I wouldn't want to mess with the success of Odd Thursdays.

I am good with it too Bill.

If I were to voice a preference, my *personal* preference would be to dump the qual'y and just run the chosen class/race for the night with the hardware you bring.  I would feel badly if I broke someone's pride and joy (and no doubt highly refined) class entry, and I would be equally disappointed if someone handed me back my own broken one.  I am more the fan of drive your own, break your own...

If the IROC format is intrinsic to the NASTE experience, I can respect the tradition, but I'd honestly rather set it aside.

Also, qual'y time = less racing time...

So yeah, sure!

(Actually, I just edited my original post.  I had mentioned the 917 & 512 initially but apparently deleted it)

I'd be happy to get mine out too.  They are clearly not of the same era but I bet they'd probably go just as well and I'd rather see more cars out there than fewer, so sure- for now- BRM GT's are welcome as well (McLaren F1 & 911 GT1).  The more the merrier!

Bill can formalize this later but I wanted to get this on the table.  Bill and I were talking recently and it appears that we are migrating slowly toward a critical mass to start running the BRM classics (917's and 512's) on Odd Thursdays.  Between the two of us, we came up with 6 or 7 of us who have them in our possession.

The intent is not to displace any of the other classes, especially after a large number of people have taken the BRM Gp C plunge and had the class take root- so the objective isn't to put that class (or any others) aside.  The intent of this posting is to make sure those who have them start bringing them to play.  I'll let Bill figure out how to actually schedule it on any given Odd Thurs (last, first, in the middle of all the other classes...).

So, with that said, grab your shelf queen and bring it out to scuff it up.  I'm definitely IN!

Let's play by the "box stock" BRM rules like the Gp C class and see where we go from there (stock tires, motor, wheels, etc).  Actual rules are posted somewhere on SCI if you're interested.  We will aim to fall within those as the end goal.

Pics from 5/19 at Al's.  At this point I believe we were running the Over 50 cars.  I tried to get them in frame but they are just blurs.

Al,

Thanks indeed for another fun night of racing!  It was nice to see everyone and swap paint again, and it's a fun track to run on.  I was quite happy to partake in the after-hours running of the Classics heats as well.  Good fun to get those cars out too!

Dan,

Glad you enjoyed it, they are great, fun cars.  If you're serious, I may be able to put together a car for something reasonable.  Let me know if you're interested and I can take a look.

WOw!  That there website is clearly NOT Bill's handiwork!  Looks great gents, but I'm glad to see the effort went into tires which work well first and then the slick website later.

Looks great!

Thanks Bill for the hospitality again and another great night of racing.  I was very happy to see the new class with so many people and their new car builds.  It seems like we created an interesting and fun way to get some shelf queens off the shelf and onto the track.  Thanks to all who contributed their feedback and input on the direction we took.

Looking forward to the next round!!

The Fly's seem to be all over the place with their sizes.  It does seem like every marque had their specific size.  I think I have some T70 tires but will have to confirm...
