Monte has sent out an e-mail about this, but in case you haven't heard...

I will be hosting a race on Sunday, October 3, at my place. Carroll Shelby chili on hand, snacks, beverages, etc. Racing starts at 2 pm, doors open at 1:30.

Racing will be open, no points, "run what you brung".

Here are directions from both north and south:

Directions from Portland (PDX) Airport North:
Start by going northwest on NE Airport Way, taking Airport Way toward the Departures/Ticketing/CheckIn/Valet Parking. Keep left at the fork to continue on Airport Way. In 2.37 miles, merge onto I-205 South toward I-84/Portland/Salem. In 3.07 miles, merge onto I-84 West (Exit 21B) toward Portland. In 5.44 miles, merge onto I-5 South (exit is on left) toward Salem/Beaverton. Stay on I-5 for 7.77 miles until Exit 294 toward Tigard/Newberg. Take the exit and merge onto Oregon 99W South. In 16.5 miles, turn right onto N Main Street in Newberg (Oregon 240). Go 3 tenths of a mile on Main Street, then bear left onto W Illinois Street (Oregon 240). Stay on Oregon 240 for another 2.03 miles until you see a blue sign with four nearby wineries (i.e. Roco, Four Graces); this will indicate the turnoff for Red Hills Road. Turn left onto Red Hills Road (watch for traffic from the left; it's kind of a blind corner). Go about a half mile on Red Hills Road, then turn right onto Herring Lane. Neighborhood directions are below.

Directions from I-5 South:
Take I-5 North toward Portland. When you reach Exit 278 (Ehlen Road NE), exit and turn left onto Ehlen Road. Follow Ehlen Road for 7.04 miles until you reach River Road NE (it will be a "T" intersection). Turn right on River Road (Oregon 219) and follow it for 4.28 miles until you reach N Villa Road (you will bear right at rear of Walgreens and turn left at the light to merge onto Oregon 99W going South). In about 8 tenths of a mile, turn right onto N Main Street in Newberg (Oregon 240).

Back from my vacation. Most days are good for me, if this is still needing to be run.

Mitch, I'd be very interested, but I'm out of town 9/2-9/13. Unless you're running very soon, I won't be around until later.

Well, the Airbnb business is so good that the first free dates I have for racing at my overhauled track are all in October. I have the 13th through the 16th available if anybody is interested. Please let me know ASAP so I can block the calendar to ensure that we keep any of those dates open.

Thanks!

I have been busy with repairing the driver stations on my track. Just now getting to where everything operates properly after the destruction the construction workers managed to do while our "shop" was being renovated into the new Airbnb space.

I'm glad to say the track is now completely done! So I can actually practice and test cars. I fully intend to get back into racing, but haven't got good cars for a lot of the classes we race. I will probably be at the next one, though!

I HAVE MISSED IT!!!

I need to talk to Alan about something else anyway; I'll see if the plans have progressed at all beyond just thinking about it, and when the proposed races might be held.

I recently had cause to speak with Alan about a potential 24 Hours of Tacoma race this year. He said that he's not planning one, but had considered some "monthly endurance-type races" of 3-6 hours for teams from the usual areas. So four months of 6-hour races to determine the overall 24-hour team winner. Would any of our NASTE folks be interested in such a series? I'm always up for racing!

Just reply in this space. If there's enough interest, I'll let Alan know.

Even more impossible news. It only took two and a half years, but after getting the county to allow us to have a completely legal Airbnb building in what was a shop apartment, basically rebuilding the entire structure, and adding a lot of extras, I now have a comfortable, inviting space for slot racing.

In addition to the track itself, the Game Room location has air hockey, table tennis, a 64-game arcade table (PacMan and a bunch of other arcade games), a 75" flat screen TV, lots of seating, a full-size refrigerator for beverages, microwave, toaster oven, electric fireplace console, and a full bath and half bath. You can see pics of the whole place at our Airbnb listing at: https://tinyurl.com/hxnkznk2

Monte has posted pics of the track under the "Tracks" section of the NASTE website.

They don't call it Independence Day for nothing....

I'm available...

I wonder if the response was great enough that NSR would consider a further 100 to come from North and South America....?

My track will be up and running in time if Al is not ready or would prefer to avoid. Plus, there will be lots to do if you're tired of racing: Air Hockey, Ping Pong, 64-game arcade table, 75" TV....

Pix available in a few days.

I would love it if NASTE were a part of this program. Unfortunately, I  won't be able to attend tonight (putting the finishing touches on the renovated Airbnb space—which is FINALLY DONE!!!!!), so my .02 will have to be in this message. The project turned out fantastically, and the track will be ready to race as soon as I replace the stuff that was damaged during construction (lap counter light bridge and some fencing).

Have a great race tonight!

I agree, Doc! Trouble is, if I don't get this done, I lose money...we have our first Airbnb guests booked for Memorial Day, so the place HAS to be finished. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Have fun, guys! Working to finish up the renovated game room. Furniture is now in, doors and trim going up, lights and plumbing finishing. Will have final paint starting on Friday.

We should be ready for a race in June! (He's said that before, right?)

I would love to help; just need a date. I believe I'm free on the 18th....

SWMBO and I get our 2nd shot on 4/5. Drywall is up in the Game Room, they're coming to do the finish work tomorrow. After that, it's paint and flooring, then we can move everything back in. Should be ready to host a race by the end of April.

It's been 2 YEARS in the making. Thought we'd never get there.
