Topic: Penguin Point Sunday Series - April (0 replies, posted in Penguin Point Raceway)
An enthusiastic group of 10 racers came out today for a rousing afternoon of racing. At the start we announced the new points system. It is:
per heat:
1st - 3 pts.
2nd - 2 pts.
3rd - 1 pt.
And each driver receives an extra point per lap. This helps reward those that turn more laps.
The big surprise of the day was the excellent performance turned in by Art! I heard some rumors that his motor might have had a little extra oomph and perhaps his down force was out of spec but when you get to be that age I think you are entitled to a few luxuries. Rico lost a number of points when he had controller issues and forgot we were scoring points for laps too. He'll get them back. And to top it off, we had Terry and his grand kids Aiden and Devyn all going toe to toe. It was great fun watching them battle it out.
Here now the results:
Monte - 102
Art - 101
Greg "Greeman" - 94
Rico - 90
Victoria - 81
Dennis - 79
Aiden - 79
Jimmy - 75
Devyn - 71
Terry - 68

Next time we'll run the NASCAR's. You'll be able to hit them from three lanes away.

Re: NASTE Race # 6 (9 replies, posted in NASTE)
Yes, with the extra track I got from Blair I was able to do things like replace half-straights with full straight sections as well as add in 4 extra cross-over sections. It makes for a better flow. The ones at each end of the main straight, the one around the back side of the S going under the bridge and one more to smooth up the entry to the pit lane in the home stretch portion.

Thanks to all the folks that came out to have a wild and crazy time on the digital track. I hope everyone had a good time. I know I sure enjoyed standing back and watching. With 17 racers in attendance we had plenty of drivers to fill out the teams. I'm considering having a 4 hour version just for fun this summer when we can open the garage door making it a little easier to get around the track. More on that later...
The rally track also seemed to be a hit. Every time I looked over there someone was on it.
I'd also like to thank the HandyMen. My sliding glass door SLIDES! Rico, Catrinus, Jeff, Bill, all that had a hand in there, it was really appreciated.
There's even a few of those little cakes of Dorothy's left. Yum!

Ok, gang. We're just about half way through the Ninco season as scheduled so it's time to consider the next class that we'll run from July through December. Here's what we've already run:
Fly Classics
Italian Stallion Shootout - Slot. It, Racer, NSR
Ninco NC5 Coupes
I've been thinking about either a classic F1 with lower powered motors or an LMP series. I know with the tight layout at the Pen that NASCAR's would be fun too. We'd have lots of side action with those. What other classes sound like fun?

Re: Penguin Point First Sunday Series- March (2 replies, posted in Penguin Point Raceway)
It was a great crowd and another fun day of playing with the cars. Seventeen racers came out to try their luck in our March first Sunday series. Thanks to you all, we sure had a good time.
Once again Rico had the car to beat and the skill to make it even harder. Tied with Rico for top honors on the day was AJ. They just squeaked by Flying Bryan and all of them seemed to have more can than I did. Once again, the cars held up pretty well. I think we tossed a tire or two and had a motor pop loose.
There was also some good food going on. Victoria made some excellent Chili and Tim brought a pot of Chicken soup. How were the cup cakes? Apparently there is a penalty for score keeping.
Here now the results:
Rico Locati: 28
AJ Locati: 28
Bryan Trachsel: 26
Monte "Big Smooth": 24
Gary Smith: 22
Bill Bostic: 20
Greg "Greenman" Petrolati: 18
Beau Frazier: 18
Dave Smith: 18
Victoria "Zen Racer": 16
Dominic "Birthday Boy" Locati: 16
Aiden: 14
Jimmy Jones: 14
Tim "Timba" Booze: 12
Mike Lombardi: 12
Terry: 10
Jill: 10

Thanks Rico, that was a great race and a fun night. I always enjoy running around the Hills and once again I was reminded how much I miss
"night" racing. Personally, I couldn't have eaten any more. Hats off to Kelly, those sausages were wonderful.

It was a fun and somewhat rowdy afternoon of racing. Those poor cars took a pounding. But I am happy to report after a little tuning session this evening all are ready to do battle once again save for a mirror that seems to have had enough. Lousy slacker...
Here now the official results:
Rico Locati: 28 pts.
Monte Saager: 26
Greg Petolati: 22
Randy Stumman: 22
Myrna Stumman: 20
Mike Lombardi: 18
Victoria Saager: 18
Jim Jones: 14
Terry: 14
Fadi: 9
Devyn: 8
Basim: 7
Brian: 6
We'll look forward to seeing you all next month and perhaps we can slow up that Rico guy.

We had a great time too, thanks to team Stumman. The food was great and like Rico, didn't even give a thought to dinner. I enjoyed the track, the new layout is not only fun but seems to be free of some of the issues we've had in the past.
It should be a fun season.

Topic: NASTE Race #5 - 2011 Season - Dude, where's my track? (4 replies, posted in NASTE)
It's just about 4 weeks until the next NASTE race which is being held at the TBD track. We should probably come up with a plan of attack soon. A review of the schedule shows:
Jeff's track: 2
Monte's track: 1
Randy's track: 1
The remainder of the schedule looks like this:
Monte's track: 1
Larry's track: 1
Rico's track: 1
That makes for 2 each at both Jeff and my tracks. Don't think a third one at either is the best choice. Suggestions? How about an HO race? Another possibility would be to just shift the schedule forward and hope that mista Bill has his track finished in a month or two.
Oh Bill... I ran the idea by the group last night that we just go over and finish that track of yours while you're on vacation. By the way, where is Satan or whatever monster-dog's name is? (Missed you last night)

Thanks to the Courtney boys for a fun and frantic night of racing. Those jalopies are both treacherous and fun. As slippery as they were to me I was unable to enter race-driver mode and had to resort to lap-getter mode.
And that was one great crowd with 19 racers in attendance. What a season!
We'll look forward to pictures from the Hammer and perhaps some video.
