Race is a GO! See you all there!

What a day! The opening race of the 2022-2023 NWTS Season, The Patriot 500 was everything one could hope for. With 16 racers taking to the track for 48 minutes of door-to-door racing, there was never a dull moment. From the drop of the green flag to the checkered flag, anything that can happen, did. Blown motors, bad crashes, broken bodies and some good old side by side racing kept everyone on their toes. A HUGE THANK YOU! to those who helped fix broken cars, corner marshaling after falling out of the race and just hanging around for fellowship. Firehouse Sub sandwiches didn't hurt either. A HUGE thank you to my wife, Teri, who picked and delivered the Firehouse Subs. After all was said and done, here are the final results:
1st - Gary Tipton - 485.6 laps
2nd - DC Dynamo - 464.4 laps
3rd - Craig Rieland (Fly Racing) 463.4 laps
4th - Racerbob 461 laps.

Thanks to everyone that came out to test. Everything went well.
Track is good to go. Looking forward to the Patriot 500.

All 2022-2023 OSCAR sanctioned races will need to have a minimum of 12 racers pre-registered for the event to be run.
No prepayment required. The cutoff date is 1 week prior to each race. In the event the minimum is not met, the race will be cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is necessary for the race to have an adequate number of corner marshalls and have rest periods for those not racing.

This year's Patriot 500 will need a minimum of 12 entries in order for it to run. Here is the current pre-entry list for the Patriot 500 on September 10th, 2022. Cutoff date is September 3rd, 2022
1. Bob Nakamura
2. Gearloose
3. Mitch Brooks
4. Hersh Huddlesten
5. Bart Ouchida
6. John Gill
7. Bill Bostic
8. Gary Tipton
9. Gary Klein
10. Doug Sinsical
11. Al Christensen
12. Stuart wall

PASER Open Track Monday

Due to some computer issues at Rob's Redline Raceway, Monday's race venue was switched to Bob Nakamura's Gorge Raceway in Troutdale. This switch created some issues on its own and I apologize for any confusion! With that said, we did end up having some great racing in the gorge!

It was hot outside, but Bob's basement location for the track was nice and cool! This was the first official race for the track which was recently moved from its original location in Keizer Oregon. The track was originally built by Paul Painter and it is beautiful! For me this course is very difficult, and I struggled with even completing laps! I had raced on it at its previous location, but it has been quite sometime, and it showed!

The first class of cars to be gridded were the Womps. Our PASER Womp Class is probably different than most Womp classes throughout the slot car racing world. We race them in a narrow width formula, with the track being no wider than the width of the chassis. While limiting the cars performance where cornering is concerned, it poses no limit on the fun aspect of racing them!
http://www.naste.org/members/bill/gorge_IMG_3460.jpg

With only five racers in attendance we raced using a "track call" system, which due to our lack of previous experience on the track, led to some pretty lengthy heat races! Our host and track owner Bob showed us all the fast way around the course and took the Womp win!

After the Womp race we lined up Flexi cars. Even at less than eleven volts these cars proved to be quite a challenge! My strategy for future Flexi races at The Gorge will be DE-TUNE! For this race we ran one round of three minute heats. Again our host took the podium (I'm starting to see a pattern here!). Here are the results:

1st Bob 130 laps
2nd John 118
3rd Rob 102
4th Bill 100
5th Hersch 91

Thanks to everyone who came to this first event. Looking forward to many more.

Mile High Raceway has been successfully moved from Keiser to Troutdale, OR. The track has been reassembled and is now in the testing stage to work out any issues. The track will be renamed to The Gorge Raceway, but the roots of the track will be represented in signage and memories of those who have raced there. A special thank you to Paul Painter for all his help in the purchase and disassembly of the track. It was great to sit down and reflect on the roots of slot car racing in the Northwest and the pioneers who have paved the way to keep this sport alive today.
Looking forward to having racing return to The Gorge Raceway.

The Gorge Raceway is currently in a process of transformation of removing the plastic Scalextric track / table and replacing it with a 4 lane routed wood track which was previously known as Mile High Raceway. The changing over process will involve a complete reworking of the main room and the former storage room as well as flood damage repairs. The hope is to complete the work by mid-summer. A special thanks to those who were involved in the disassembly and moving of the track.

Today was the first event of the "Bob McFarland Memorial Tour 2022". A huge thank you to all who came to race. Bob was a great friend in so many aspects, and a mentor to many in the slot car community. His passing was a great loss to all those who knew him. It is an honor to be part of this tour and look forward to other tracks who participate in the tour. The participant number was a little low and a special thanks go out to Susan Street and Mitch Brooks for helping out corner marshalling and to my wife Teri who ordered and delivered lunch. It shows the BIG hearts of those who are involved in our sport. The racing was so close, that the finishing order came down to the very last heat of the race. Each driver had 64 minutes of track time. Racing these cars have so many variables beyond their control, it boils down to effort, choices and plain old luck. Here are the final results:
1st. Bob Nakamura (NAKNAK)          660.2 laps.
2nd. Zack Morgan (Prozack)             656.2 laps
3rd. Ton Street (Terrible Tommy)      650.6 laps
4th. John Gill (Turing John)              644.6 laps

Update for the rules package for the Classic NASCAR class. The bodies for the class will be any 1/24 Revell-Monogram NASCAR
body that will fit the chassis. The year range is approximately from 1981-2007. The body trim rule stated no trimming of the body sides other than the sideskirt and front spoiler. Since there is a variation of body heights in the aforementioned year range, the minimum 1.850 height rule will be the standard. You can trim the bodies as needed. No raking of the body is allowed. Thanks for your cooperation.

Here are the final results of the 4.5 Flexi NASCAR Race.
1st - Gary Tipton              511.5 laps
2nd - Bob N. (Racerbob)   495.5 laps
3rd - Scary Gary              494.1 laps
