Sounds good Chris! It's THE established routine and makes for good karma!

Where are you guys meeting for breakfast? And what time?

This chassis design would also be legal for Outlaw Sportsman with a wheel/tire change, as per the stated rules. This chassis was built by Larry Cockerham. This chassis also features narrower side pans with a wider center section. Notice the "rattle joints" use rectangular tubing instead of square to allow some forward/rearward movement of the center section or pans.

I thought I would start a discussion illustrating the differences between PASER's Outlaw Sportsman Class and Northwest True Scales Sportsman Classes.

First, the difference in eligible bodies. The NWTS class uses 1959 through 1972 bodies for late model Sportsman cars, and 1949 through 1957 for early model cars. Bodies must represent full size American made cars. The PASER Outlaw Sportsman Class uses 1958 through 1979 American made full size or mid-size car. Neither set of rules (NWTS or PASER) allows the use of "Pony" cars or cars typically raced in the Trans Am series.

The real difference between the two club's Sportsman rules has to do with chassis design. NWTS rules have a spec chassis which is the Hanna/Econo chassis or a direct copy. PASER rules call for an inline motor "Rattle" chassis, which is what the Hanna chassis essentially is, however in the PASER Rules there are no specifics as to how the chassis must be built. The rules are the same between the two clubs with no hinges being allowed (only rattle joints). I suggest reading the rules for all the specifics before building your cars!

Here are some photos illustrating different build types, all of which are legal for the PASER Outlaw Sportsman Class:

These first two photos are of a Hanna/Econo chassis built by Bob Hanna.

This chassis design would be legal for Outlaw Sportsman with a wheel/tire change, as per the stated rules - built by Frank Lynn. You can see that the side pans are much narrower than the Hanna chassis, and the "rattle" joints are located in different locations.

Ok sounds  like a new motor is needed foe the womp..

Yes, unless you already have a Professor Motor PMTR 1032, new in the bag so we can verify it as a legal motor and mark it with PASER identification.

If you do not already have a motor, purchase the legal motor from Bob Nak. The price will be the same as it would be purchased directly through Professor Motor. As of September 2023, motors for the Womp Class must be marked with PASER I.D. to be considered legal. If we cannot verify the legality of your motor, it will be considered illegal!

Heads up: I am out of used RTR Womp cars for purchase. All I have left are used bare chassis. All the parts necessary to assemble a car are available through Bob Nak.

I am in Chris. I have it on my calendar. What time do you want me on the hill?

The PASER Rules have been updated as of today 7/10/2023.

The rules will apply to the upcoming season which starts in September. We have gone to great lengths to simplify the PASER rules, while keeping within the original spirit of the group as intended by the original club founders.

Here are the noteworthy changes in the rules:

For the Can Am Class Hawk 7 or S16D motors may be used.

For the Production Sports Car Class Open S16D motors may be used (same motor rules as Late Model NASCAR).

The PASER Trans Am class has been shortened to just Trans Am. PASER and Northwest True Scale (NWTS) Trans Am classes are now the same, and carry the same name as well as sharing the same rules.

The PASER Sportsman Class has been renamed to Outlaw Sportsman. The legal bodies have been expanded and opened up to include ANY 1/24th or 1/25th 1958 to 1979 American make full or mid-sized cars. "Pony" cars are still NOT legal, but the new rule will allow cars like the Chevrolet Nova, Ford Fairlane, etc.

For the PASER 4.5 Flexi NASCAR Class the legal rear tires will we specified. Only Pro Track Daytona tires will be the spec/legal tires for the rear. The PASER Club will stock and inventory the tires so racers can buy them directly from the club at the races.

For the PASER 4"Flexi Class ALL four tires must touch and roll! It was found at the last race some of the front pans on the new JK car's chassis contact the track surface. The PASER Club will stock and inventory replacement "O" ring tires for the front of the RTR cars to eliminate this issue.

The WOMP Class motors will now be specified motors. The new spec motor will be the Professor Motor FK motor rated at 25k. The club will stock and inventory motors for racers to purchase. Since many of these FK motors look alike, the motors will be marked and identified as legal. Any motors purchased outside of PASER will need to be verified and marked. If it cannot be verified (i.e. new, unopened in the bag from Professor Motor) it will be deemed illegal. These motors are NOT expensive!

Our goal this season is to tighten up our rules a bit, and to continue providing great slot car racing for everyone! So Please, read through the rules and be sure your cars comply.

Due to low interest and racer turn out, the track owners decided to suspend the Even Thursday racing until the start of the new season in September. However, I have received comments from a few racers interested in racing during the summer. If there is enough interest I'm sure we could put together at least a couple races before the start of the new season in September.

Who is interested in racing before the start of the 2024 season in September?

Le Mans Class rules added.

Date on calendar corrected , from July 6th to July 13th.

Sometime around 1984 I purchased this roll deck display case from Hobbies Unlimited on North Interstate Avenue in the Overlook neighborhood. Circumstances dictated the need to sell it around 1989 and my good friend Mike Bell showed interest in it, so a deal was struck. Just last week, nearly 40 years after my original purchase, I was able to require the display case from Mike.

My original plan was to restore the case but after a light cleaning, and seeing all the fine scratches in the top glass, and minor nicks and scratches in the wood, I decided it needs to stay "as is". All those imperfections were put there by kids just like me getting close and spending a great deal of time "rolling" through the items in the display!

Thanks to another good friend's help, Rob Enders, I was able to get the case in its new home upstairs above the Checkered Flag track. I was so excited to get started on the case, I was out in the shop before 7 this morning replacing the 110 volt line cord. The original one had not faired well, probably due to mice or carelessness at some point in its life. With the new line cord installed I started filling it with some of my HO cars (some of the ones I could find anyway). Although I was able to fill the case, I will need to go back through the cars once I find the remainder of my collection. I will need to sort out what's there and thin out the herd! But at this point I am pretty content to just lean against the case and work the button rolling the trays back and worth! Thanks Mike!

So, I've been doing some serious work out in the shop. Sorting, re-boxing, and emptying boxes and boxes of stuff! It doesn't look much like it, but I am making progress! I should be back up and running in another month or so?

Why?

Here's why.....

For the June 8th race at Rob's Redline Raceway in Vancouver we only had 6 racers, so we raced on three of the four lanes with three turn marshals. This system worked very well on Rob's track.

Womps was the chosen class for the first race of the evening. We ran three minute heats for one round of racing (one time through all three lanes). The Womps run great on Redline Raceway! The flow of the course suits the Womps! Bob Nak and Doc tied for first with the computer settling the tie by total elapsed time to complete the round. Here are the Womp results:

1st Bob Nak. 113 laps 533.354 T-Time
2nd Doc        113       533.672
3rd John G.   110        530.419
4th Rico        110        539.263
5th Rob         95
6th Bill          88

After the Womps had rubbered up the track the Flexi Class cars hit the track. The Flexis are unbelievably fast on Rob's layout! My car is a bullet and corners like a cat! Although I had more than my share of crashes (self inflicted) I still managed to pull out a win. John was close behind in second. Flexi results:

1st Bill           198 laps
2nd John G.    194
3rd Rob          190
4th Bob Nak.   185
5th Doc           181
6th Rico          164

Congratulations Doc on winning the 2023 NASTE Championship!

Congratulations to Doc! The 2023 NASTE Champion!

I don't believe they are part of HOPAC. I met Tommy and Joel a few years ago after we had moved up here to Vancouver. They are fellow Vancouverites!
