Okay, so Jeff, Monte and I will have a great time on Saturday, September 29. Doors open at 4 pm, racing starts at 6. There are some tricky spots on Red, so practice will be important.
Classes:
• Le Mans
• Can-Am
I will have a crock pot full of Carroll Shelby chili (of course), a variety of soft drinks and bottled water. There's lots of parking, so no worries there.
Hope to see more of you at the races!

To all:
"Neighborhood Directions"
Once you've reached our neighborhood:
Our major crossroads are Hwy 240 & Red Hills Road. On Herring Lane, there are three speed bumps and only the first two are marked (the third is at the crest of the 2nd hill). If traveling by GPS, it may be incorrect and will claim you've arrived about 1/4 mile before you truly have. We are located almost at the end of the lane on the left-hand side (white picket fence/gated entrance with grape motif).
We are at 19560 NE Herring Lane. There will be a sign reading "Ulrich-Smith". We have a gated property; the gate code is 1956#, and it opens toward you, please ensure that you don't pull too far forward, or the gate will hit your car. You can tell you've reached our property by looking at the gate—it has a grape motif in a circle. There are ten trees lining the driveway up to the house. The track is located in the shop down the second driveway to the right of the main house. There should be plenty of parking available around the shop.

Hey gang —
Now that I have the track working, I'd like to host a race. How does Saturday, September 29 sound? Or Friday, Sept. 28?
And what time would suit everybody?
Here are directions from both north and south:
Directions from Portland (PDX) Airport North:
Start by going northwest on NE Airport Way, taking Airport Way toward the Departures/Ticketing/CheckIn/Valet Parking. Keep left at the fork to continue on Airport Way. In 2.37 miles, merge onto I-205 South toward I-84/Portland/Salem. In 3.07 miles, merge onto I-84 West (Exit 21B) toward Portland. In 5.44 miles, merge onto I-5 South (exit is on left) toward Salem/Beaverton. Stay on I-5 for 7.77 miles until Exit 294 toward Tigard/Newberg. Take the exit and merge onto Oregon 99W South. In 16.5 miles, turn right onto N Main Street in Newberg (Oregon 240). Go 3 tenths of a mile on Main Street, then bear left onto W Illinois Street (Oregon 240). Stay on Oregon 240 for another 2.03 miles until you see a blue sign with four nearby wineries (i.e. Roco, Four Graces); this will indicate the turnoff for Red Hills Road. Turn left onto Red Hills Road (watch for traffic from the left; it's kind of a blind corner). Go about a half mile on Red Hills Road, then turn right onto Herring Lane. Neighborhood directions are below.
Directions from I-5 South:
Take I-5 North toward Portland. When you reach Exit 278 (Ehlen Road NE), exit and turn left onto Ehlen Road. Follow Ehlen Road for 7.04 miles until you reach River Road NE (it will be a "T" intersection). Turn right on River Road (Oregon 219) and follow it for 4.28 miles until you reach N Villa Road (you will bear right at rear of Walgreens and turn left at the light to merge onto Oregon 99W going South). In about 8 tenths of a mile, turn right onto N Main Street in Newberg (Oregon 240).

Wish I could be there! In keeping with the theatrical tradition in which I dealt for most of my life...break an axle! (You don't ever say "good luck" or mention the Scottish play...)

Nice! If you need help, I'm willing to show up...
I've got the router bits to route the "gains" (space for braid on either side of the slot, if you're using braid).

Chris, I've got the 7th and 8th of August free. Otherwise, most of August and September are busy. As reported above, no free weekends until October. But then again, it's cooler in October, and there's no AC in the shop where the track is.
I do have fans...

Dates seem to be hard to come by. Most of our weekends through the summer are occupied with Airbnb guests; I don't have free weekends until October. Since I'm relatively far away from the Portland area guys, is a mid-week, evening date an impossibility? I have an EVEN Thursday open, 8/16, and an ODD Thursday, 9/13. Any thoughts?

Yes, guys (and gals), it's been promised for a couple of years now, but this time it's really true! I have actually got my track working. There are a few tweaks remaining, and it needs a cleaning desperately, but mostly, it needs lots of laps to get the surface rubbered in. I have yet to get the switches that let the track run in the opposite direction, but that's not a priority now. (I can always just switch the power terminals).
So, when we have a spare space of time in between Airbnb guests (the track is in the shop below our Airbnb apartment, and I don't want to disturb anybody who's there), I will let you all know in case you'd like to spend some time helping put some mileage on the track!

Will do. I love the Panozes (Panii?). They're so ugly they're beautiful.

Okay, I have a question vis-a-vis the GT class. I have a couple of Panoz Esperantes that I love the look of, but as front -motored cars, they suck at performance. Olifer makes a 3D chassis for Slot-It pod (sidewinder) that fits with some interior modification. Stock motor can be used (18K), so it's not overpowered. Would a car set up like this be legal? If not, there is a thread on SlotCarIllustrated (http://slotcarillustrated.com/portal/fo … hp?t=99079) that shows how a fella from Oz modified his to take a sidewinder using the original chassis (no pod).
Thoughts?

I have some DTMs that I could race; think they're SCX. But I'm not sure. They ran pretty well in my last club. They should be competitive with the Carreras.
As far as NSR and Thunderslot being a separate class, I think that's probably wise. They just are too much for anything else. I'm still getting my head around all the other classes...we ran "box stock" everything in my old club, and that's pretty much what I have. So I need to see what works and what doesn't.

Not that anybody cares very much, but I do have a new e-mail address:

My old e-mail carrier suddenly realized (after 5 years) that I no longer had an internet account with them after moving to Oregon from California, so they finally decided to close the account.
Anyway, the above is my new address, so if you want to e-mail me, use that one.

Re: Oregon Donors Needed Nov 9-12 (24 replies, posted in NASTE)
Despite the setbacks, it was still fun. A bit frustrating of course, due to the arbitrary handling of the light issue (we were dealt with palliatively, while the other teams were helped preventatively). A number of things (the handing out of motors and motor change done one team at a time; the power and light issues) left a bad taste in the mouths of a number of the teams, so things will have to be changed a bit for next year. Nevertheless, it's still slot racing at its most interesting, as it really makes setting up the car properly and driving in a way that's difficult for most of us (me, especially) to do: DON'T RACE, JUST DRIVE! The key to success in this kind of endurance race is basically to STAY OUT OF TROUBLE, and that requires disciplined driving. Those who tried to race usually ended up de-slotting, and on the floor sometimes. We pretty much drove carefully, and without the aforementioned issues would have finished pretty respectably.
It's still fun, even though I got about 40 minutes' sleep in 24 hours. Monte, please reconsider. We'll make Alan be sensible next year!

The car this afternoon; battery powered lights still on!
