Finally continuing on this project. I hope to have this '40 Ford Early Modified done for the next race of Feb. 22, 2014. It will have a 312 Ford motor.

The Scholer chassis is $80.00, kind of spendy. It has springs up front. The problem I found with the chassis is the motor is held in by one screw and hangs in mid air. I installed a mount on the brush side of the motor and it stopped the motor from moving as it did during it's first race. Dwayne is currently running this car.

This is a picture of the bracket to keep the motor from moving, it works!

Working on a TA2 Mustang. The body is narrow and so have to make the flairs wide. Rules say the tracking can go to 3.150" up front and 3.250" in back. So that is where this car is set at. Hope to have this car complete for the next race.

Except for a few minor details, like installing a motor, this TA2 is ready for some testing and tuning! I will be racing this next race on 3-29-2014.

I think you are on to something Bill. Looking forward to the completion, looks like they are going to blend in with the body just fine!

Beau built a couple new cars for the 2015 season and ran them at the Oct. 4-2014 open practice.

A new TA2 Camaro

A new NASCAR built by Beau for Rick, a new racer. Looking forward to Rick's participation. Beau and I tested the car and it handles quite well. It is a simple and inexpensive chassis to start Rick on his way.

I am currently building ( slowly ) a cheap chassis. I pulled this chassis out of my old chassis drawer and thought I would try building it into a true scale car. Going to take some cutting etc. as it is real wide. I don't know what the brand ( Parma ? ) is as there are no stamps/name on it. I lowered the chassis by cutting the bushing holes at the top making it a horse shoe type shape and soldering in a bushing, I lowered it enough so the tires would last a long time before the chassis would hit the track! I completely cut off the front axle brackets and will build a new unit, one that will have an adjustable wheel base. It is going to need some weight also! I have another chassis in the drawer just like it, mmmmmmmm if this one works out, maybe I will finally start my Indy chassis.

Re: Projects: Done/Not So Done

Very true Doc. With this storm settling in it seemed like a good time to copy over some of the forum material from The Northwest True Scale Racers site. Howie is planning to shut down the site by the end of the year, and I don't want to see all the great information lost!

Bob Nak built this fine Ford NASCAR to do battle and Beau finally built the Indy car I have been waiting on, really nice job on both cars. The Indy car gives me more incentive to start mine!

Me too! They do really nice work! None of these are pre-painted or over the counter purchased!

Now that Beau has completed his Indy car, time for me to start on mine. I will rob the decals out of Dan Gurney's Eagle kit. The kit is from 1999 and the decals look a bit rough, hope I can save them.

Hey Howie,

That chassis you're working on for a "Big Wheel" (a few posts back), I believe that is a JK chassis. I think I still have a few. ============Bill

Bob, that is a very nice looking NASCAR! Bill; I believe you are right on the chassis, the fog in my head is clearing up!

Got in some bench time today. And yes, I'm still working on that stinking late model Trans Am Camaro body! I am NOT a good model builder, nor a good body man, but I am making a little progress. Here's wher I'm at today on those #*%@! fender flairs. I think someone with good modelling skills could make the ping pong ball flairs work very well!

http://www.naste.org/members/bill/Projectspage7m.jpg

The expoxy I applied to the inside of the body around the flairs worked well. I was able to use a Demel tool to grind most of it away, but left just enough to reinforce the bond. I still have a fair amount of fine sanding left to do, but with just rough sanding they seem to be shaping up.

http://www.naste.org/members/bill/Projectspage7n.jpg

You can see how the round ping pong ball piece makes a nice contour for the flair.
