Looks like it's been a couple years since I last posted a photo of my progress in getting the shop's upstairs organized. Well I'm still at it. It may not really look like it, but you'll have to take my word for it, I have made progress since that last photo I posted in May of 2021. Look, you can actually walk from one end of the room all the way to the other!........But seriously...I've decided to get back to some Ebay selling around September.......
I decided to make some improvements to the shelving design in my large display case. This process involved once again emptying the entire case. While I was at it I took the opportunity to photograph and document some more of the cars in my collection. The top shelf of my display case featured primarily smaller 1/32 cars. Here's some of what is on that top shelf.
A lot of the items I collect are things unique to our area and the type of cars we build and race. This machined motor mount/bracket is one of those items. These mounts were manufactured by In Slot Racing, a collaboration between Kirk Smith and Hugh Ellsworth. These were the very first of this type of mount to hit the market anywhere! This is one of the rare examples that included the engraved ISR identification!
I also collect some HO scale cars, mostly Aurora Thunderjet 500 cars. Here's a few that are still new in the original boxes.
A lot of the cars that end up in my collection, are there only because I happen to like them. This Scalextric F1 Lotus is an example of that.
I really like the 1/32 Monogram F1 cars. This Lotus is a pretty clean example. It is missing some of the rear end detail parts, and it was obviously run and loved!
Here's another 1/32 Monogram F1 Lotus. This one is complete and in good condition. The original rear wheels and tires were replaced, I assume in an effort to improve the car's performance. Check out the "handkerchief" detail added to the driver....Cool!
This 1/43 dirt car was built by Larry Anderson in Canada. Larry and I became friends about 20 years ago through the internet. Unfortunately somewhere along the line I lost contact with Larry. I hope all is well with him. He built some very nice cars! This scratchbuilt body is mounted on an Artin 1/43 chassis.
Here's another Scalextric car, just because I like the Tyrrells.
I believe this 1/32 Cobra Daytona Coupe was built from a resin body kit mounted on a Ninco chassis. The paint and detail work is extremely nice! This car was part of Gary Gossett's "Goose" collection.
This is a very clean and complete example of a Strombecker Chaparral. I don't see them is this condition very often.
Another clean and complete example of a 1/32 Monogram Lotus F1.
Here's a Strombecker Ferrari someone painted and detailed. It's really clean and they did a pretty good job! Unfortunately I have no idea who completed the work on this one.
This is an example of a 1/32 Cox La Cucaracha that came with a clear body. It appears the original owner completed some detailing of the body. What I like best about these cars are the original magnesium wheels! The chassis on this one is really clean and original!
My hunt for one of these Aurora 1/32 Corvairs started many years ago. While looking through stuff at an antique show, I cam across one of these Aurora Corvairs. It was missing the front and rear detail parts (headlights and the rear body panel). I figured I would be able find these parts on Ebay easy enough, so I bought it (it was cheap!). Well I would bid on incomplete and broken cars on Ebay, just for the parts I needed. Every time I was outbid, and sometimes these "junk" cars would go for almost $100! Then one morning this 99% complete car (missing rear bumper) popped up for a "Buy-It-Now" price of around $80. I had to buy it!
Unfortunately I have no idea who originally built this custom VW Bug. Whoever it was did a really nice job mounting this 1/32 VW body to a Monogram chassis!
IMC 1/32 stock cars. I have long lusted over these hard to find cars! I finally have a nice original example of the Ford Galaxy, nylon chassis and all!
I think the IMC Chevrolet Impala is much more difficult to find than the Ford. This one has definitely been used, but it is in pretty good condition, and it is complete.
Nice to see you are making progress. Definitely a rare and varied collection, impressive indeed.
Yeah, it doesn't look much like it, but I am making progress! I'll be posting more photos in the next few days. I want to document as much of my collection as I can, someday it will all be gone from my world. Right now this display case contains 112 cars. Most are 1/24 cars.
Aurora K&B Pontiac GTOs. These are very cool vintage 1/32 cars! This blue one is in pretty good condition. The chassis is marked K&B.
This yellow GTO is also in pretty good used condition. The chassis on this car is marked Aurora.
I have never been a fan of Eldon cars. But with that said their 1/32 Concours series of cars were pretty nice! Here's a good example of a used Ferrari.
This 1/32 Cox Cheetah has a little bit of a background story. When I was about 13 years old I got this car in kit form. I assembled the car, but I never ran it on a track. That was about 1968. Around 1981 I traded this car to my friend Gary "Goose" Gossett for HO cars. When Goose passed and I bought his collection from his son Steven and I got this Cheetah back. I doubt it will be leaving my collection again..
This 1/32 Scalextric Lister Jag is probably the oldest Scalextric car I have. It has the typical styling of an early slot car. I like it!
This old Strombecker 1/32 Ford GT40 is in my collection just because I like the way the original owner painted and detailed it. It is different from the other GT40s I've seen. The paint and detailing is pretty well done. Unfortunately I have no idea who did the work.
The following photos are all cars built by Greg "Greenman" Petrolati. Greg is an excellent model builder, and all of these cars are beautiful!
Here's another 1/32 car that falls into my DKWW (don't know where or when) I got it category. I have no idea who built this car but it is nicely done!
I don't know who built this 1/32 Ferrari, but I like it!
Racer built some of the most beautiful 1/32 cars! They were also pretty good performers with chassis based on Slot.it components. This Gulf livery P68 Fords is one of my favorites!
I ended up with a few Racers in my collection, all acquired with the purchase of the "Goose" collection. The Racer Ferraris are all gorgeous!
The detailing on the Racer Ferrari GTO is outstanding!
This is an early Monogram 1/32 home set car. Notice the crude guide and pickup/wiper assembly.
The second shelf down in my display case is where the 1/24 cars start. Like the 1/32 cars, the 1/24 cars I collect are for the most part cars I just like, and my reasons vary widely! They don't have to be perfect, in fact I prefer cars that are not perfect! I love the ones that have been used and abused. I like the idea that I can pull any of my cars out of the case, throw on a fresh set of tires and run it without worrying about damaging it!
This is a DuBro bodied Scarab on a slightly modified Cox magnesium chassis. I like the paint.....
1/24 AMT hardbody Mustang coupe. Whoever built this one did a really nice job on the paint! I also like the way the body was lowered on the chassis.
This 1/24 Buick stock car is from the Norton Gaston collection. Model car body mounted on a modified production chassis, powered by a 36D motor. Norton and his father Jerry used this color scheme on many of the stock cars they built.
The holy grail.........1/24 Cox Ford Galaxy stock car! This one is used but in pretty good shape. The chassis is mint!
This is a nicely done Ford GT40 on a Cox magnesium chassis. I don't know the details on this one. It appears to be a factory made model car type body, molded in red. I do not believe the body is Cox, but I'm not really sure because the body mounts fit the Cox chassis. Anybody got any ideas? The previous owner cut grooves in the rear tires to resemble rain tires.
This is a beautiful 1/24 Monogram Chaparral. The original owner added some very nice paint detail!
I like this 1/24 scratchbuilt car for its detail work and simple chassis construction. The little things are what I think makes the scratchbuilt cars so cool. They are true one-of-a-kind creations! Somebody put in a lot of work and love to create these cars. It's even better when it is obvious they have been raced! This one has cool details like the exhaust system, and the paint on the driver's helmet...And yes, the driver appears to be a BIG guy!
This is one of my more recent acquisitions, the illusive Cox Chaparral 2E with the working wing. This is the La Cucaracha version. I got this car in an HO slot car collection purchase. This car was in pieces, mixed in with a big box of Aurora Thunderjet track. I found all the pieces except for the roll bar/headrest piece that fits behind the driver's head. I also found another complete Cox La Cucaracha Ferrari, a La Cucaracha Ferrari Coupe body, and a Cox 1/24 gas powered Pontiac GTO tether car in the same box!
1/24 Monogram Midgets are hard to find is good used shape. The small detail parts are usually broken off if the car has been run at all. This one is in pretty good shape considering it has been used. Obviously it wasn't used much, and run carefully.
Here's another Monogram 1/24 Midget. You can see this one has had a little tougher life. Even so it is a pretty descent example.
This DuBro body is in my case because I like the way it was painted and detailed. Yup, that's it......
This is a brand new Monogram factory painted clear body.
I don't have many "Thingie" cars in my collection. They have never appealed to me all that much. This one is in my case because even though it is used, it is in remarkable shape. Normally the bodies on used Astros are all cracked and broken. The body on this one is actually pretty decent. The chassis is exceptional.
Cox La Cucaracha in 1/24 scale. The King of the "Thingies"! Through the years I have had SO many of these cars! They have become so valuable (even used) that as I got them I would just resell them. Somehow I managed to hold onto this one. This is a really good color for a Cuc (to me, any color but orange is a really good color!).
As a kid, this was my all time favorite "Thingie", Monogram's Snake! The motor is missing, but other than that it is pretty original and complete.
A few years ago at the Portland Swap Meet, I met and made friends with Hal Tacker. Hal is an incredible artist (Google him!). He does a lot of drawings of WWII planes and Bonneville Salt Flat race cars. Anyway, we kept in touch through email through the years. Hal told me he still had some of his old slot car stuff, including his original wooden race box (I have already posted photos of it in this thread). I ended up buying what he had left and he shipped it all up to me. This was one of the last remaining cars he built and raced. I love the early style scratchbuilt chassis and the padlock type motor! Hal also painted and sold new clear plastic bodies for slot cars. Behind the slot car is one of the boxes he used for packaging of his painted bodies.
Here's another iconic "Thingie" manufactured by Classic Industries. The Stinger featured a large "wind brake" mounted to the rear of the body. Under braking the brake would deploy, popping up to almost a 90 degree angle from the rear deck of the car. Under acceleration the brake would drop back down into position level with the rear of the car. This car also featured a unique chassis, different from most of the other Classic chassis. This one is in pretty good shape. The body is undamaged, the chassis is near mint, and the "wind brake" still works.
1/24 Monogram Chaparral. The body on this one is a little rough, but the chassis is very nice.
This Strombecker 1/32 Ferrari GTO is in here mostly because I like those bullet wheel nuts! It is a clean example of an old Strombecker, but honestly it IS those wheel nuts that got it into my display case!
1/24 Cox GT40. The body on this car is a little rough, but the chassis is pretty clean.
1/24 Monogram Chaparral 2D coupe. Monogram re-released this Chaparral in model kit form, but this is an original slot car version. This car features a working rear wing.
Another example of an early Monogram 1/32 home racing set car with the funky guide pin/flag set up. The Ford GT40 body on this one is actually pretty nice.
This is K&B's version of the Ford GT40 in 1/32 scale. The body is not nearly as well detailed as the Monogram cars. The chassis on this one is really clean.
The later versions of Monogram's 1/32 home set cars used a two piece brass chassis. Definitely an improvement over the originals and features a real guide flag. This chassis is well used, but the Ferrari body is very nice.
I don't consider the Strombecker 1/32 cars to be great slot cars. But some of them do look pretty good. I think this really clean Ferrari looks pretty good!
This flagman figure was painted and detailed by Larry Anderson and sent to me from Canada.
Oh yeah.....Aurora Thunderjet 500 HO slot cars....My favorite! Two new in the box, Mustang 2+2 fastback Tuff Ones! One new in the box Ford J Flamethrower, has working headlights and taillights. And one new in the box Corvette Hardtop Vibrator. Vibrators were the precursor to the Thunderjets.

1/32 Monogram Ferrari F1. Complete, unpainted, and in very good condition!
Moving on down to the third shelf from the top. This is one of the 1/24 scratchbuilt cars from the Norton Gaston collection. It's a clear body, nicely painted and detailed. 
1/24 Ford GT Roadster body on a Cannon chassis. This one is clean!
Another pretty nice Cox Ford Galaxy stock car. The hard plastic body is rough, but the chassis is very nice!
1/24 K&B Chaparral. This one looks like it was used and loved. The chassis is original, complete, and clean.
1/24 Cox Cheetah. The body is almost complete, just missing the side pipes, and headlight covers. It has a very nice chassis and the correct wheels.
1/24 Revell Corvette Stingray. A very clean and complete example of an early production car from Revell.
In the early 1980's I raced HO cars with a group of guys throughout Oregon. We raced Aurora Thunderjet, A/FX Magnatraction, G-Plus, and Tyco 440 cars on tracks in the Portland area, Salem, and Eugene. This was one of our club patches (HO Racers of Oregon). It was the best of times!
This cool looking 1/24 Lotus is from the Norton Gaston collection and features a simple scratchbuilt chassis.
1/24 Monogram Scarab. This is another body style Monogram re-released in model kit form. The paint/plastic detail is much nicer on the original bodies than it is on the newer re-released kits.
