Thanks again, that was a great time.  We'll see you in June.  Perhaps we can drag along a few more with us.

A field of eight racers showed up for the second race in the new Penguin Point Lifetime Points Series.  The cars of choice were Fly Classics.  The heats were 2 minutes in length.

Basically drivers earn points in each heat:

1st: 5 points
2nd: 3 points
3rd: 1 point

This was the first race where the new urethane hand-out tires were available.  Rico generously used his tire truer to make a nice set of tires for each racer in attendance.  I can say that for my car, first it reduced the hop that I was getting from the NSR and Slot.It tires that I was using, but by the end of the race they were absolutely smooth with no hop at all.  The grip was just about perfect.  I was extremely pleased and plan to continue to run them.  A big thanks to John Mitchell who donated the tires.  He considers them to be a Shore 40A compound for those that might be curious.

On a special note, Victoria was seen absolutely flying in a few of her heats, at one point I looked up and I was trailing her.  Go girl, go!

Three rounds were run this afternoon with a perfect score being 45.  Though all tried, no one was able to achieve the full 45 points.  Congrats to all on a fine effort and especially Victoria for really getting her lunch on as well as all the other contributors.  As usual, food outnumbered racers by a tremendous margin and all seemed pretty well fed by the end of the afternoon.  It was a fun day of racing and thanks to all of you that came out.

Here are the official results:
Monte Saager - 43
AJ Locati - 37
Rico Locati - 35
George Vriese - 25
Mike Lombardi - 25
Victoria Saager - 21
Tim Booze - 19
Sean Vriese - 11

Due to the Easter holiday there will be no race the first Sunday in April but we will return the first Sunday in May for more exciting racing action at the Pen.

Wow, what a report.  Did it look like any of that stuff was selling?  Perhaps only to other collectors that think there's overblown profit to be made.

Thanks to all that came out, we certainly had a great time.  The racing was close as can be with 2/3 of the field within three laps.

Yes, what about the track?  We need MORE tracks!  Especially cool 1/32 scale routed tracks.

So?

Howdy Joel.  We're still working our way through this class.  Nothing has been started race-wise yet.

Yet...

All depends on what you want to do.  All the systems have lap counters designed to work with them.  They mostly just count laps but also integrate easily.  If you want to move to a computerized solution then there are even more choices but you also may have to install sensors and do some wiring.

Have a great time but remember, if you buy cars, you have to bring us each one too.  New NASTE vacation rule.

All the joints got sanded smooth as glass.  We'll find out if the slots need work once we start running cars again.  And no, the debate is not open to public consumption.  It's a matter of how solid the coloring looks.  It might be just fine as it is.

Yes, as is, it is.  The tape has been pulled and I'll probably give it a try a little later.

No.  First we need to debate a second coat.  From what I read on the boards, it sounds like this is a good choice for standard rubber and urethanes which are my tire of choice anyway.  Probably won't need to true up the tires any more either.  The track should do that...

Those of you that were at the First Sunday race noticed a few "rough" edges on the track, notably where the cars crossed over the connection areas.  In fact crossed over is just about the fate that faced some of those cars.  Head-on collisions caused by rough track was unacceptable.  So we decided to do something...

On Friday night I got out some sandpaper and a few sanding blocks and went to work.

After a hard evening of sanding the supervisors show up promptly on Saturday morning to check progress.  Finding no code violations, we were allowed to proceed.

Making those creases go away...  But what to do to make those sections blend?

Monday
Tape, tape and more tape.  I got these corners down!

Monday Evening
A huge thanks to Victoria for her help in this project.

The paint is Ralph Lauren River Rock and it honestly feels about like sandpaper.  Grip should be tremendous!

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.  Most of us have already been through that part a few times.
