Looks like Ninco has stepped up to the plate with Slot.It and NSR.........

Here's the chassis under the new Lamborghini:

Quick notes, motor mount pod secured to chassis with three screws, set screw locked pinion gear, motor secured to mount with screws, rear axle stops with set screws, and oil holes in rear axle bushings. Looks pretty nice!   ------------Bill

WOW!!!!!

Smooth, How do the new Ninco motor pod chassis cars compare with the older cars, and are the motor pod chassis cars legal?

Cool, nice wide variety, and I have something that will work.............   ------------------Bill

Hey Smooth, Can you give me a few examples of legal cars (i.e. make & body style)?

Thanks!   ----------------------Bill

I would make provisions for bushings or bearings for the rear axle to rotate in. That way they can be replaced easily when worn.

The easiest way to mount the motor would be using screws that secure the endbell or better yet the can to the chassis.

There are lots of different methods for mounting the body.

George,

Could you have the piece or pieces cut and then use a hand brake to make the final bends?

Could the bends be scored with the lazer technology to ensure an accurate bend?

George,

If you have that kind of technology at your disposal it eliminates the problems I mentioned. Alignment problems should be solved with the CAD tool. There are many lazer cut chassis available on the market you could copy a basic design from.

Hey George, I'm not sure what the gauges equate to in fractions of an inch thickness, but for a flat chassis if you get thinner than .030" it bends pretty easy and may suffer damage in a wreck. If you were to use sheet metal in a semi boxed "bent" up style chassis you could probably go thinner and lighter. The biggest problem with a "bent up" style chassis is the alignment of the axle holes and motor shaft/pinion to gear. Bent up flanges (like on a Parma type chassis) are hard to align even using a drill press. If I were to construct a chassis of that type, I would use tubing (with an inside diameter the same size as the outside diameter of the axle bushings I was planning to use) soldered into over-sized holes between the two bent up flanges. The tubing could be set up in a frame jig and soldered into the holes correctly aligned. Then using a cut-off wheel I would cut out the unnecessary portion of the tubing (depending on motor configuration; in-line, angle-winder, or side-winder).   -------------Bill

Hi Mike,

All the NASTE races are IROC style. We race similarly prepared cars supplied by the track owner for the race they host. All you need to do is show up to race. The cars and controllers will be there and ready to go.

Monte's Penguin Point First Sunday Series is also open to all.  The current class is the Italian Stallion Shout-out featuring Racer, NSR and Slot.It cars. For those races you would be able to race your own car, but even there Monte has loaner cars. It's a good opportunity to try different cars before you decide on what to purchase.

Randy's Beaverton Slot Car Club is currently in their Winter Season.  They are racing Fly GT Classics, and like Monte's there are usually loaner cars available.

I know it's a long drive from your place Mike, but we'd love to have you up for some racing!   -------------------------------Bill

Sorry to hear you didn't have a better turn out Mike.

The holiday festival may work out better. It was amazing to us how many adults as well as the kids would stop and try out our HO track when we used to set it up at events. The adults would usually comment how they had a set just like it when they were kids. Then they would be amazed that any adults would still be racing the "toy" cars.

Do you have any local hobby shops where you could set it up and have a race?

Do you have any model car shows or swap meets locally?

We are wishing you great success Mike!

Years ago we had an HO club and we built a protable track. We sat it up in a local hobby shop and promoted a couple races. We also took it to a couple car events (The NW Shelby Club Show & Shine). The first year we charged  a quarter to race for 3 minutes. We gave out prizes to the fastest racers. The next year we charged 50 cents for 2 minutes. We were overwhelmed with participants!!!!

So if this event doesn't pan out as you hope, don't give up. They're out there, sometimes its just hard to get connected!   ----------------------------Bill
