Topic: This is the Indy car page.

by howie » Sun Jan 27, 2013 12:06 pm

Beau brought his new Indy car to the Jan. 26th. 2013 race. After the race was over he tested it. It turned in the very low 4.3's! This is going to be a very fast class for next season. I am considering a summer race with these cars. There is a picture of Beau's Indy car on the Projects page. It has yet to be painted. His car is powered by a Hawk 7 on a Scholer Pantara chassis.

Update: No Indy cars have been built beyond Beau's. The class is not on the schedule yet for the 2015 season. Maybe if it was put on the schedule there would be a few put together. So stay tuned.

I am still on the Indy car thing. I have updated the chassis rules, the chassis is to be an open chassis. The Scholers are evidently going away as Professor Motor has been out of our favorite one for at least 8 months and they can't get a hold of anyone at Scholer. So, buy or build and let's get this thing going, maybe for the 2016 season!

From now on this page will be known as the F1 page. We will have the F1 on the schedule in 2017.

I finished this F1 last March or so ( see the Projects page ). We have a couple F1 races toward the end of the season ( 2017 ). Beau and I already tested our F1's and they handle great, should be a fun class with the open wheels as an added challenge! I am in the process of building another one for Blake and then another one for Dwayne. We can have a race with 5 people, so we need one more!

Marty is in the process of building an F1 car and John bought a body, so things are looking up for the class.

Beau discovered several other 4.5" Indy car bodies that will be added to the body list. He also ordered 5 of the Outasite #0520 body to be put in the inventory of bodies for sale.

The previous posts to this topic were copied over from the Northwest True Scale Racers site with Howie's permission. The NTSR site is scheduled to close down at the end of this year. I will be copying over as much of the great information posted there as possible in the next few months.  =====Bill

Re: This is the Indy car page.

Update on the Indy class: As most know I have been trying to get an Indy class up and running for at least the last 4yrs. Well I think we are finally seeing the light at the end of the long tunnel. Beau found a 4.5" Indy car complete with everything except motor, gears and guide flag. The cost? $59.99, great price. I ordered 10 of them and they are all taken except one which will go on the parts rack. With that count and the two racers who already have one we have 11 Indy racers to start off the class. This class will be a very spec class. The car is made by Pro track, part #PT651. We will run the Hawk 7 motor. Beau has been working on handling issues and he brought his car over today and we managed to get the car to handle quite well and I think there is more to come. He is trying to make it easy for all racers to do the same minor changes to make the car handle better. We will have a special Indy race in May.

Re: This is the Indy car page.

I guess I had better attach my wing and get it painted.

Re: This is the Indy car page.

Update: all 10 Indy cars have been spoken for. If you want one you can order them from Professor Motor.

I just ordered 10 Hawk 7 motors that we will run in these cars and will have 6 on the parts rack if any one is interested.

Re: This is the Indy car page.

Finally the first Indy race is history. The turnout was low but the fun was high! It was close racing with Beau getting the win. The big and last race of the season takes place on May 5th. for these Indy cars. Doors open at noon and we will go through at least 4 times at 4 min. heats. I haven't officially named this race yet.

Re: This is the Indy car page.

Howie, Thanks for an awesome day of racing! These cars are a blast to race. The cars are really equal in performance so the racing was incredibly close. There were MANY side by side battles with very few crashes all race long! Great job in organizing and implementing this class. Oh and a big THANKS for building my car for me!

Re: This is the Indy car page.

These cars are a piece of cake to put together ( I did 5 of them ) as the chassis, axles, tires are already together. The time consuming part is mounting the wing, painting and installing the decals which to me is the most fun!

I think if your axle gear would not have loosened, you may have taken the Gold! I had your back though!, which means I didn't have a prayer to keep up!! You and that car go together quite well!!

Re: This is the Indy car page.

This is the car Howie built for me. After the first round of 4 minute heats (32 minutes of racing) I was in 6th place. This car was so good in the second round I came back to finish first in that round and 3rd overall!

Thanks again Howie for the awesome car!

Re: This is the Indy car page.

Thanks Howie for the use of the loaner car, it is much appreciated.

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.

Re: This is the Indy car page.

Howie turns down the voltage and after trimming rear tires ... these cars work very well. Ted offered to turn up the timing on my Hawk7 motor (like his)  but I declined his offer. smile
