Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Yes, it was Odd Thursday Night Racing at its best!

As Tracy put so well, "it was Odd Thursday in that it was odd that it fell on an even Thursday"!

To start the evening off, Chris let us take his new BRM McLaren around for some laps. Like Rico said, these cars are awesome! The Trans Am race was as close as ever, with just three laps separating first from eighth. There was another tie for first between Greg and Rico, as well as a tie for third between Glenn and Chris. Evil Jimmy Jones fought hard to keep the "loaner" it the game, but it just wasn't meant to be!

The GT Class was an exciting race. For the first few heats it looked as though Dennis Hart was going to walk away with it with his Slot.it Audi laying down some impressive lap times. John Fisher started out with a very loose car, but after cleaning his tires he proceeded to destroy the field. It was obvious had John cleaned the tires before the start of the race, he would have dominated! But at the checkered flag it was Rico taking the win,

The BRM race was as wild as ever! John Morse masterfully executed the best strategic nerf of the night. It was truly poetry in motion! 3/10s of a lap separated third, fourth, and fifth. Chris Kouba again showed us the fast way around TooBad Motorplex!

Here's the results:

Trans Am Class:

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Thanks for an excellent night Bill.  It feels like forever since I was able to attend a Thurs night rumble.  There indeed was excellent racing in all categories, including my duel with Glenn with your car in T/A.  John Fisher is going to be a force to be reckoned with once he remembers to clean his tires before hitting the track.  That car was STUCK!

Looking forward to a fun afternoon at Howie's on Sat!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Odd Thursday Night on Decemeber 11, 2014.

First off, what wind???? Just the typical east county gusts here in Fairview!

We had seven racers for the evening, including one newcomer, Jeff Fields. We raced hard and heavy through the three usual classes of cars, then proceeded to bench race late into the night. I think I enjoy the bench racing just as much as the track racing! Must be because I'm an old guy!

Gary "Goose" Gosset was in top form and flew by us all for the wins in EVERY class! Well except for the Historic F1, only because he wasn't racing one! Jeff Fields placed first in the Historic F1 division. Rumors were also flying about bringing back the handicap rule. But I think it's just time for the rest of us to step up our game (pun inteneded). Next race I'm loadin' for goose!
Bring it on my feathered friend!!!

Results:

Classic Sports Car Class:
1st  Gary Goose Gossett 52.5 laps
2nd  Bryan Dickerson 50.1
3rd  Mitch Brooks 49.1
4th  John Morse 45.7
5th  Bill Bostic 45.2
6th  John Fisher 41.2
7th Jeff Fields 38.7

Vintage F1 Class:
1st Gary Goose Gossett 55.3 laps
2nd Bryan Dickerson 49.8
3rd Bill Bostic 48.2
4th Jeff Fields 45.0 - 1st Historic Division
5th Mitch Brooks 43.9

4th Bryan Dickerson 52.1
5th Mitch Brooks 50.0
6th John Morse 49.3

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Hey Wild Bill: Thanks for the snacks and the great bench & track racing. Thanks for keeping the wind out of the garage & the power on so we could have fun! Well it sounds like i better get busy and work on my "box stock to the rules" cars so i can keep up with you next race! I am going to get on amazon to see if i can buy more tail feathers to replace the one's my fellow racers seem what to pull out.

Goose

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Don't try to get away with using Turkey Feathers! We'll know!!!

I'm going on Amazon to see about buying a drone with an infrared camera to position over your place so I can find out how you are setting up your cars, and monitor how much practice time you're puting in!!!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

I had every intention of racing and had my box in the car along with Bill's heater despite a stressful trip to Walla Walla for the funeral coupled with alternator failure on the way home, but Dominic had a relapse of the flu early Thursday morning.  I got the first shift while Kelly was at work and then had to work late to try and catch up.  After all that, I decided to take the evening off.

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Oh man..............I don't blame you!!!!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Just when I gave up on my historic F1 and bought a Vintage F1, I'm digging around in my junk box at the far end of my workbench and I find some abandoned chassis with Slot it axles, a small gear and some steel insert wheels. I put them in my scalextric Ferrari. Wow, smooth fast and quiet. It's no longer legal due to the wheel change, but it is sure fun to drive. I think it is almost competitive with the vintage class. But now with the slightly smaller tires it looks more like a midget racer than an F1.

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

That sounds cool Mitch. Bring it out to the next race!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

wow another great night of fun thanks to all- for you that missed it we had a new racer Jeff, when I was racing I never understood how some guys were happy to be car owners and not drivers but I gotta tell you I loaned Jeff a brand new cooper climax for the historic f1 class and it was way fun cheering him on with that absolutely stock little gem, ok the magnet helped but man it was cool. Today I saw one sold on Ebay for upwards of a hundred bucks though....aye carumba!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Oh yeah, the MONEY thing!!! Gets me all the time!!!  From racer to Ebay!!!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Spent some time on the bench over the past few days. I tore the evil Ninco AC Cobra down again and worked it over some more. I have way too much time into this car! Added some more weight, a lot more! I glued in the axle bushings and did the super glue axle slop fix. It worked well, but I will admit I glued the axle to the bushings and had to work it loose. Note to self: when using the super glue on BRASS bushings, let the motor turn the axle in the bushings for a longer period of time! It's still a little (ok, a lot) noisey, but I think it's because the pinion gear is worn. Trying out some Jel-Claw rear tires.

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Next to leave the bench was my Scalextric Trans Am Camaro. This is my number 9 car. I have temporarily given up on my number 6 car that I was trying to keep mostly stock, with just a rear tire change. Although the car worked fairly well, the stock Scalextric rear wheels were just not up to the task. I first stripped, then broke 3 rear wheels! The number 9 car has updated Slot.it gears, rear axle, and wheels. While I had it on the bench I made some rear wheel inserts for it out of the ones I broke on the number 6 car.

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

So, I haven't totally given up on a box stock entry for our Vintage Trans Am Class. This is my Scalextric '70 Camaro entry. The body went through the paint stripping process, and then I added some decals to set it apart from other entries. The running gear is TOTALLY stock except for the Paul Gage urethane rear tires. We'll see how it performs....

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Last one to roll off the bench. My race winning Scalextric vintage F1 Eagle went to a new owner. I had such good luck with that car I decided to pick up another Eagle to replace it. With this one I decided to add some decals to the body so I could tell it apart from the other popular Eagle entries. This one, like my first one, got some additional lead weight and Luf's rear tires.

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Bryan Dickerson scored his second Odd Thursday win in the GT Class. Greg Petrolati came home the winner in the Trans Am Class, with Bryan Trachsel second, new comer Jeff Fields placing third, and Dennis Hart in fourth. The BRM race was a typical BRM barn burner, and I do believe I (Bill) scored the most nerfs!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

Jimmy Jones celebrated his 71st birthday with us on this January 15th Odd Thursday Night of racing.  A new name was added to the winners list. Jeff Fields scored hiw first win in the Classic Sports Car Class with his Slot.it Ford GT40! Jeff out ran 10 other racers to the checkered flag, winning by a full two laps! The early leader, John Morse developed rear tire trouble on his Ninco Corvette which dropped him out of the running for the top spot. Gary Goose Gossett narrowly beat Bryan Trachsel by 3/10ths of a lap in the Vintage F1 Class. Mitch Brooks scored his second win in the Vintage F1 Historic Division. We raced the Over 50 Class of old school 1/24 cars for the first time. There were a few equipment failures, mostly mine due to poor pre-race preparation, but the racing was very exciting and fun! Based on feedback from those in attendance, it looks like this will be a popular class. We had a few loaner cars on the track for this race, and the same loaner car helped drivers to the top three podium finishes. What was that car you might ask? It was a totally stock Classic sidewinder witha clear plastic Lola body. And then we raced a fourth class for the night, the ever popular BRM Porsche 962s. These BRM cars are just way too much fun! Even racing four classes, we were finsihed with the race format by 10:30pm! It was a great night of racing! Hope you had a great birthday Jimmy!!!

Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread

The rules for the Vintage F1 class have been updated and posted under the Race Rules topic in the Forum. The update adds cars to the list of elligible cars with the addition of two more classes. As in current practice, all of the Vintage F1 classes are raced together in one race, and scored with an overall winner as well as individual class winners.
