Topic: OSCAR Sports Car Race at Rob's Redline Raceway on January 14, 2023

I don't even know where to start with this eventful story! So let's just start here; This was OSCAR's return to the track originally built by Larry Cockerham over 30 years ago. Rob Enders recently purchased the track and restored it. Rob created an awesome facility for slot racers complete with a spacious pit area and many really comfy chairs! The facility is beautifully decorated with racing memorabilia and vintage slot car items.

But let's get to the race. We had a field of 11 racers, most of which were running Ferrari bodies cars. Thankfully Profesor Fate entered a Ford to break the Ferrari monopoly!

NAKNAK (Bob) won the Racer's Choice Award (concours) with his beautiful GREEN Ferrari!

After the Friday night practice session the track was still a little lose at the start. Qualifying times reflected that lose condition. Terrible Tommy was the Top Qualifier laying down a very quick 3.601 second lap with his GREEN (looks green to me anyway) Ferrari (I think I'm seeing a pattern here)......Here are the qualifying times:

As the first heat race unfolded it became clear that traffic was going to be the biggest challenge of the race! With 4.0 inch lane spacing, and the wide sports car bodies (well, most of them), passing was difficult to say the least! It didn't take most racers long to figure out being selective of your passing points was critical. By the end of the first half of the race many racers had already spent a lot of time in the pits making repairs!

Here are some first half lap totals:

After some excellent pizza Rob served during the lunch break, we were all ready for more racing. The third round of racing began with better grip on the track and some faster times with higher lap totals. However the carnage continued! The number of incidents resulting in of track pit time increased! The number of drivers experiencing extended repair time was approaching half the field!  As the fourth and final round of racing got underway we experienced a computer malfunction and the scoring stopped. Luckily our expert race director Bob (AKA NAKNAK) was able to retrieve the data for round three! The race was then restarted for round four. One would think that by the fourth round of 4 minute heat races we would have been pretty well sorted out and calmed down! However that was not the case! In the final round ProZack not only set the fastest lap and highest lap total of the race, he completely destroyed his Ferrari body! By the end of the race there were at least five car bodies we will never see competing again! In the end it was NAKNAK's beautiful concours winning car out front for the win! He didn't get through unscathed, but he was able to stay out of the worst of the carnage!

Nice race. I had planned to come and had a Testarossa ready,  but we ended up with kids and grandkids this weekend.

Had a good time even though my race didn't go so well.

Thanks for having us Rob!
