Topic: Back to Pelican Park on Wednesday July 21, 2021

John Gill and I made a return trip to Pelican Park for their Grand Sport Class race. Pelican Park Speedway is a facility every slot car racer should visit at least once! There is lots of history there! I'm pretty sure this is the oldest active 1/24 track in the state! If you ever have the opportunity to check it out do it! There's a bunch of really nice guys that race there, and their lap race format is a lot of fun!

I did a little better this trip. Still last place finisher but, I didn't see this guy with the yellow flag nearly as much!

I never dreamed when Doug Haynes bought this track from me in 1989 and moved it from Portland to Eugene, I would be racing on it 32 years later! Not to mention that it would be transformed into such an amazing looking track! Thank you to all the Pelican Park racers for keeping this track and racing program alive!

Also in the facility there are many displays of static racing models as well as old slot cars. Here's some of Doug's work with his Resilient Resin bodies.

I believe this is the 1/24 Cox Lotus Doug bought from me in about 1988!

This is Tom Snyder, one of the original and founding members of the group. If I remember correctly, Tom was also involved with Doug and the HO racing on Doug's fantastic HO track in the late '70's and '80's. Tom continues the legacy and holds "The Official Rule Book"!

Here are a couple of the models on display.
