Topic: Northwest True Scale Race at Springwater Raceway - October 6, 2021

Thanks to Bob Nakamura for hosting the second NWTS point race of the season at Springwater Raceway!

The racing was close and most of all fun!

Here's some photos I got throughout the day's event.

Re: Northwest True Scale Race at Springwater Raceway - October 6, 2021

So I was checking over my Classic NASCAR this morning and found an issue. During the later part of the race my motor started stinking and going away (I know, hard to believe from my old Parma green endbell motor, huh?!). Anyway, I found my front axle was bound up and one wheel would hardly turn. My front axle tube was slightly bent, something not unknown to happen at Springwater Raceway! I had added a Billy Bar to reinforce my front axle tube, and although it did not completely prevent the front axle tube from bending, I do believe it kept the front axle tube from breaking off completely, or bending to a point where it could not be easily straightened out. I was able to repair it with just a little tweaking using the axle as a pry bar. We'll see how it holds up in future races!....I wonder if I really need a new motor?...........Ah, it's probably OK..........

Yea Bill; I spent 3hrs. this morning going over issues: guide flag, guide tongue, front axle, new front tires. I am not using that as an excuse, just some stuff I should have checked way before the race!! At least it should handle better, now I need to fire and hire another driver!!

Re: Northwest True Scale Race at Springwater Raceway - October 6, 2021

I replaced both the bent axle and the bent axle tube, I also cut out the soldered in Slotworks motor and replaced it with a Proslot S16D motor. Now to see it I can run it more than 4 minutes at a time.

Nice work guys.  I had nothing to repair for the first time in a number of races- yeah.  A completely enjoyable day of racing, thanks Bob for hosting a fine event.

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.
