Topic: Soldering

After the chassis build last weekend, I realized how many people could use some solid information on soldering.

Here is a great article about the different supplies needed to build slot car chassis. There are of course some substitutes for all these items, but it gives you a basic overview of all that is needed.

You don't need a super fancy jig to get going. I use one of these at home and it works great, the holes can easily accept .047 piano wire.

Check out this article, also this site has great step by step how-to's on many chassis builds! They aren't directly applicable to the cars we run, but there are a lot of good ideas in there.

Hope this helps!

Re: Soldering

Thanks Zack! I have struggled with scratchbuilding brass chassis for almost 40 years! I know that practice is probably one area that would help me greatly, but making time to actually sit down and do it is where I fall short!

Thanks again for all you're doing for all of us!

Re: Soldering

I did a bit last night on my TR-2. Finally it flows the way I thought it should. I may get the hang of this yet.

Now if I could just find my wind shield...

Nice going Mitch! Just takes some patience and some practice to get the prep work right.
